Advanced Instrumentation

These videos will provide an overview of fulcrums that are critical to the successful implementation of advanced instrumentation for patient care. Extraoral fulcrum techniques require greater clinician skill and are necessary for advanced periodontal instrumentation. Reinforced fulcrums make use of both hands while scaling which is considered an advanced approach to instrumentation technique. Demonstrated are reinforced fulcrum techniques using direct vision while scaling with both hands. These techniques require the non-dominant hand to aid and support the dominant hand while mainly using extraoral fulcrums. Applying both extraoral fulcrums and reinforced scaling allows achievement of protective ergonomic hand, wrist and arm positions.

Midterms are over so we have reached the half-way point in the semester. It is important to focus on what you accomplished and not get discouraged by the amount of work that is still to be done.  A famous quote to think about is: “Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.” by Abraham Lincoln. We only have 6 more weeks so “just keep swimming” as a wise Junior once said. More News
